Terms of service

Agreeing to this

By using TimelineTraveler or creating an account, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree with them, don’t use TimelineTraveler. If you use it on behalf of a company or other organization, you confirm that you have the authority to agree for it.

Who you’re dealing with

TimelineTraveler is operated by Fungibility LLC, a Florida limited liability company. Where these terms say “we”, “us” or “TimelineTraveler”, they mean Fungibility LLC.

Your account

You can make timelines without an account. They are then stored only in your browser. You need an account to keep them on our servers, to share them, to invite co-editors, to upload pictures or to buy a paid plan.

• Use an email address you read. Sign-in links and messages about your account go there.
• You are responsible for your password and for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has access, tell us.
• You need to be at least 13 to have an account. If you are under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
• An account is for one person. Don’t share your sign-in details.

You can ask us to close your account at any time. What that deletes is set out in the privacy policy.

Your timelines stay yours

You own what you put in a timeline: the events, descriptions, lanes, sources, pictures and titles. You can use it for anything, personal or commercial, including work you are paid for. Nothing here transfers ownership to us.

To run the service we need permission to hold your content. When you save a timeline to your account, share it or upload a picture, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy and display that content to operate TimelineTraveler. That means saving it to your account, showing it in the editor, making your exports, and showing it to the people you share it with through a share link, an embed or the gallery. We don’t use your timelines in our marketing without asking you first, and we don’t sell them.

The license ends when the content is deleted, except for copies we must keep by law or as evidence of a rules violation (see the privacy policy).

Sharing

Every timeline is private until you share it. You choose how:

• Share link. Anyone with the link can open the timeline, without an account. A forwarded link works for whoever gets it.
• Embed. The timeline appears on another website, for anyone who visits that page.
• Gallery. The timeline is listed on Explore and can appear in search engines and AI tools. When you list a timeline in the gallery, you also let other people copy it into their own accounts as a template and change their copy. We decide which timelines appear in the gallery, and we can remove any timeline from it.
• Co-editors. A person who joins through your invite link can edit the timeline. You are responsible for who you invite, and you can remove a co-editor at any time.

Don’t put anything in a shared timeline that you would not want the people who can open it to see.

Content rules

These rules apply to everything on TimelineTraveler: timelines, events, pictures, links and titles. The following is not allowed:

• Sexually explicit pictures or text. Nudity in art, history and medicine is allowed.
• Any content that sexualizes a child.
• Intimate pictures of a person shared without their consent, including fake and AI-made pictures.
• Hateful or violent content, and spam.
• Other people’s work used without permission.
• Other people’s private information, such as home addresses, phone numbers or private documents.
• Anything that breaks the law, or helps someone else break it.

You also agree not to:

• send automated traffic to the service, or scrape it in bulk
• work around plan limits, AI credit limits or upload limits, for example with extra accounts
• probe, break or interfere with the service, or with anyone else’s account or timelines
• resell access to TimelineTraveler

Reports and removal

Anyone can report a timeline or picture, with or without an account, using the report form or the Report button on a shared timeline.

• Intimate pictures shared without consent. We remove the picture, and identical copies we find, within 48 hours of a complete request, as the TAKE IT DOWN Act requires. The report page says what a complete request contains.
• Content that sexualizes a child. We remove it, stop the account from uploading, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
• Copyright. Send the address of the timeline or picture and say what it copies. If the claim is credible, we remove the picture or take the timeline down.

Every uploaded picture is checked by an AI model before it is stored. Sexually explicit pictures are refused. After three refused pictures in 30 days, the account cannot upload pictures. The check can make mistakes in both directions. If you think it refused a picture wrongly, or stopped your uploads wrongly, tell us.

When we remove content or close an account

If content breaks these rules, we can remove it, make a timeline private, take it out of the gallery, stop an account from uploading, or close the account. We’ll tell you what we did and why, unless the law or a report to NCMEC prevents it. If we close a paid account for something you didn’t do, we refund the rest of the billing period.

If we ever shut TimelineTraveler down, we’ll give at least 90 days’ notice by email, keep export working during that time so you can take your timelines with you, and refund the unused part of any paid period.

AI drafts

An AI draft is a set of events proposed by an AI model, based on the topic you give it. AI drafts can be wrong: dates, facts and sources can be made up or out of date. Events from an AI draft are marked unverified until you check them. You are responsible for checking what you keep and for what you share.

• Each plan includes a number of AI credits per calendar month (UTC). Unused credits do not carry over to the next month.
• A draft costs more credits on some models than on others. The editor shows the cost before you start.
• If a draft fails, the credits are returned.
• We can change which AI models are available, and how many credits each one costs.

What’s ours

TimelineTraveler itself stays ours: the app and its code, the site, the example timelines we made, the name and the logo. You can use them through the product, not take them out of it. Don’t copy the app, reverse engineer it, or present it as your own. Timelines that other people make belong to them, not to us.

Plans and billing

You can use TimelineTraveler for free. Creator and Pro are paid plans with more features. What each plan includes, and the current prices, are on the pricing page. The amount you pay is the one shown on the Stripe checkout page before you confirm.

• A paid plan is a subscription. It renews automatically each month or each year, depending on what you chose, and Stripe charges your card at each renewal until you cancel.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details do not reach our servers.
• You can cancel at any time from Manage billing in the account menu. The plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and then your account moves to the Free plan.
• Cancelling deletes nothing. Your timelines stay in your account, and timelines you have shared stay shared. The Free plan’s limits apply again: for example, you can share a new timeline only when fewer than three are shared.
• We don’t refund part of a billing period, except where the law requires it. If you were charged by mistake, tell us and we’ll refund the charge.
• If we change the price of a plan, we’ll tell you before it applies to your subscription. The new price starts at your next renewal after that notice, and you can cancel before then.

A paid plan is sold as it exists today. Features described as planned are our intentions, not commitments. We won’t move features that are free today behind a paid plan.

Check before you rely on it

Timelines on TimelineTraveler are made by the people who create them. We don’t check the facts in shared or gallery timelines, including the timelines we feature. Events can list sources: read them before you rely on an event, and before you use a timeline in teaching, reporting or research.

No warranty

TimelineTraveler is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We don’t promise that the service will be uninterrupted or free of errors, that content on it is accurate or complete, or that it will never lose data. Keep exports of timelines that matter to you. Some states don’t allow these exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Fungibility LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost work or delay, even if we were told those outcomes were possible.

Our total liability for any claim relating to TimelineTraveler is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $100 if you haven’t paid us anything.

Some states don’t allow limiting liability for certain kinds of harm, and nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

Changes to these terms

TimelineTraveler is in active development and these terms will change with it. The date at the top of this page says when they last did. If a change materially affects you, we’ll email account holders before it takes effect. Using TimelineTraveler after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you don’t, you can close your account, and if you are in a paid period when the change takes effect, ask and we’ll refund the unused part of it.

Florida law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of TimelineTraveler goes to the state or federal courts located in Florida, and both of us consent to that venue.

These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and Fungibility LLC about TimelineTraveler. If any part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we don’t enforce something right away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later.
